Our Scripture meditation is based on Matthew 9:9 from next week’s Gospel Reading, the 2nd Sunday of Pentecost. For a meditation on the Epistle Lesson, click HERE.
[9] As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.
What was it like to have a personal call from Jesus to follow Him?
We marvel at the experience of Matthew and other disciples. Jesus issued personal invitations to walk with Him, learn from Him, serve with Him.
I think there is a sense where all Christians have received personal invitations from Jesus. God, who has saved us through faith in Jesus, has gifted us with vocations. Our vocations are found in our roles and responsibilities. Are you a father or mother? If so, you have a vocation. Do you have an occupation? Then you have a vocation.
Jesus calls us into these vocations to serve as His hands and feet. We are given opportunities to meet our neighbor’s physical, emotional, or spiritual needs. Notice that each of us have a unique mix of vocations, none exactly this same. In that way, we have a personal calling from Jesus into our vocations.
Until next week, the Lord bless and guide.
