Weekly Devotion: Kingdom of God

The Narrative of Jesus’ Life

Jesus started public ministry by announcing, “The Kingdom of God is at hand.” The below passage is an example of Jesus’ teaching about the Kingdom of God.

Excerpt from the Gospel Reading

Matthew 4:26 And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. 28 The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.” (ESV)

Sharing your Faith

  • What do you find striking about this passage?
  • What does this passage say about your own growth toward maturity in the faith?
  • What evidence do you see of God growing His Kingdom in your congregation?

Pray for One Another

Each person is invited to share a prayer request. Another participant will volunteer to offer the petition. Once everyone has chosen a prayer request, take turns offering the prayers aloud.
