The Narrative of Jesus’ Life
The below account occurs early in Jesus’ public ministry. Jesus’ own family was not yet clear about who Jesus was.
Excerpt from the Gospel Reading
Mark 3:31 And (Jesus’) mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. 32 And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.” 33 And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” 34 And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.” (ESV)
Sharing your Faith
- Judging from this passage, what is one of Jesus’ highest priorities?
- What do you find most challenging about this passage?
- Share about a time Christians treated you as if you were part of their family.
Pray for One Another
Each person is invited to share a prayer request. Another participant will volunteer to offer the petition. Once everyone has chosen a prayer request, take turns offering the prayers aloud.
