The Apostle Paul makes a powerful case for forgiveness for those who sin while locked in unbelief. What about those of us who are believers in Jesus who still struggle with sin?
Paul is not exaggerating when he writes he was a “blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent” of Christ. As one who was encouraging the murder of the deacon Stephen (Acts 8:1), Paul was even more than what he listed in this passage. Yet Jesus brought Paul to faith, forgiving him of all his sin.
But what about those of us who sin after we’re brought to faith in Christ! In a sense, we can also claim to be the foremost of sinners. This is because we know more intimately our own sin than anyone else’s.
The answer to this question is unequivocal: Just like Paul, we are saved by God’s grace through God-given faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:8). God sees us as unblemished and pure, washed white by the blood of the lamb (Ephesians 5:25-27).
Until next week, the Lord bless and guide.
