Our Scripture meditation is based on Deuteronomy 32:36, the start of the Old Testament Reading for Palm Sunday.
[36] For the LORD will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants, when he sees that their power is gone and there is none remaining, bond or free.
This week we’re preparing for Palm Sunday by exploring how the Old Testament Reading informs us about Holy Week.
God’s promises or predications of blessings are always welcomed by God’s people. This verse says God will “vindicate” his people, meaning the Lord would justify his followers.
At first glance, it looks like Jesus was entering the Holy City to be crowned King. But first Jesus had to justify us. This would require Jesus to shed his blood, paying the price for sin that we should have paid (Romans 3:22-25). That’s exactly what happened on Mount Calvary.
Yet it turned out the Jesus’ entering on Palm Sunday foreshadowed his Kingship. Once Jesus was raised from the dead, we’re told in Revelation 17:14 that he became “Lord of lords and King of kings” (Revelation 17:14). Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to become Savior and Lord.
Until next week, the Lord bless and guide.
