Dual Citizenship

Our Scripture meditation is based on Ephesians 2:19-22, the end of next week’s epistle reading.

[19] So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, [20] built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, [21] in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. [22] In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

If you are experiencing angst with this age, Ephesians chapter 2 can help soothe your anxious souls.

Leaders in western society are diligently deconstructing pillars that have supported society for generations. We are told objective truth does not exist. The traditional family is dismissed as archaic. Human life is not considered sacred. I could go on, but it’s only going to raise our collective frustration.

This makes it all the more important to remember that we are not only citizens of the United States. In Ephesians chapter 2, we’re told we are also citizens of God’s Kingdom. As if being citizens of the heavenly Kingdom were not enough, God has also adopted us into His family. We are all sons and daughters in the household of God.

Adding grace upon grace, we are reminded that our relationship with God is not everchanging the way society in constantly shifting. Instead, God’s household is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets. Christ himself is the cornerstone of this spiritual dwelling. There is no firmer foundation than our Lord.

The more society devolves, the more we benefit from the stability and security God provides through such Scripture passages.
