Seventy-Seven Times

CFL Summer

The Narrative of Jesus’ Life

The below teaching occurs after Jesus has committed to going to Jerusalem, even though he knows it will cost him his life.

Reading from the Gospel

Matthew 18:21 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.” (ESV)

Sharing your Faith

  • What do you think Jesus meant in saying Peter should forgive ‘seventy-seven times”?
  • What are some stories of forgiveness in the Bible? (If you are looking for examples, consider Luke 7:36-50 or 2 Samuel 12:1-15)
  • Share about a time you were reconciled after a conflict.

Pray for One Another

Each person is invited to share a prayer request. Another participant will volunteer to offer the petition. Once everyone has chosen a prayer request, take turns offering the prayers aloud.
